Title: Process Engineer

Department: Operations

Basic Function: The Process Engineer will be responsible for overseeing projects and engineering, and environmental regulatory compliance and reporting. This includes system optimization and retrofitting, capital project design and project management, and environmental permitting and reporting. An associate best suited for this position should be comfortable leading by example and promoting a healthy company culture with a mindset toward strong teamwork and meeting production goals. The ideal candidate should pursue continuous improvement and high quality of work.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties may include but are not limited to:

 

Facilities

  • Investigate equipment failures and difficult to diagnose faults/operations and make recommendations to maintenance crew.
  • Quickly troubleshoot and mobilize solutions to unexpected equipment failures.
  • Promote good practices
  • Work with the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager to develop and over time build an inventory of critical spare parts.

 

Engineering and Project Management

  • Direct a small team of engineers.
  • Design Mass and Energy Balances, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and Bills of Material.
  • Equipment specification, evaluation, sizing, and scale-up.
  • Analyze and provide design solutions to solve problems within the existing plant process systems.
  • Equipment specification, evaluation, sizing, and scale-up.
  • Advanced process and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Process optimization and design.
  • Process cost analysis including both capital and operational expenditures.
  • Develop schedules and timelines.
  • Apply for construction permits as needed.

 

Environmental Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with wastewater, air quality, and other environmental regulations.
  • Prepare required reports for local, state, and federal agencies as needed.
  • Submit major process or site changes to update permits as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, preferably chemical engineering.
  • Project/Program management experience is required. Certifications such as PMP or Agile preferred.
  • Additional education, training, and/or certification(s) desired.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred candidate will have experience in one or more of the following: ag-processing, renewables, feed or food manufacturing, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, and/or factory/chemical plant operations.
  • Experience in managing small teams of skilled maintenance personnel, technicians, scientists, engineers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
