Title: Marketing Manager

Basic Function:

The primary responsibility will be to become the in-house steward of the graphic look of our brands, logos, company sales materials, social media, web sites and communication tools. The position will be a coordinator of social media and trade events activities and a steward of the graphic look of our company positioning materials and brand strategy. In addition, this role will collect and thoroughly analyze sales and customer data along with market research to provide market and competitive analysis updates in support of the weekly work flow of the company’s customers, distributors and vendors.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Working with VP of sales and marketing to create social media and promotion plans and execute those plans in ways that support gaining positive trade and consumer impressions for Heliae
  • Maintains and manages brand strategy and integrity to approved style guide and company direction and plan
  • Manages web site look, content and freshness
  • Facilitates approved company involvement in customer promotions and customer in market trade events
  • Coordinates, tracks and facilitates company approved trade shows and trade conventions
  • Profiles customers, markets and competitors
  • Development and preparation of reports to assist with decision making
  • Demonstrates excellence in customer service internally and externally with customers and staff
  • Helps facilitate Heliae customer tours
  • Supports Heliae’s sales, marketing and business development customer service efforts
  • Special project assignments and task force team assignments as assigned by VP of Sales, Marketing and Business Development

Title: Sr. Accountant       Department: Finance/Admin       Updated: 9/26/17 

Basic Function: The Sr. Accountant position is responsible for advanced level work involved in accounting, auditing and analysis and maintaining fiscal records and systems..  This position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of job and process costing, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.

 

Reports to: Director of Finance

Supervises: n/a 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties may include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist with month-end close activities
  2. Prepare accurate, timely financial statements in accordance with our established schedule and with input from the rest of the accounting department
  3. Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance
  4. Analyze financial statements for discrepancies.
  5. Reconcile balance sheet accounts
  6. Report on margins by product
  7. Maintain fixed asset system including purchases, disposals and depreciation
  8. Report on periodic variances and their causes
  9. Assist in completing annual financial statement audit
  10. Assit in developing and maintaining new product modeling
  11. Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting
  12. Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
  13. Assist with maintaining and improving cost accounting system
  14. Review and improve the controls needed for data accumulation and reporting systems
  15. Assist in compiling information for tax credits and income tax returns
  16. Prepare monthly joint development project invoicing
  17. Perform other related duties or special projects

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 – 5 years experience in related position.
  • A degree in accounting (CPA preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (ie. Vlookup, Pivot Tables)
  • Strong attention to detail, coordination of multiple projects and ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic team oriented environment.

Associate Intellectual Property Counsel

Title: Intellectual Property Counsel               Department: Legal                              Updated: 09-27-17 

Basic Function: The Associate Intellectual Property Counsel will support Heliae’s business objectives related to the protection of the Company’s intellectual property interests.

Reports to:       Deputy General Counsel

Supervises:      No supervisory responsibility 

Primary Responsibilities and Duties may include but are not limited to:  

  1. Patent Drafting and Prosecution: The primary duties relate to patent prosecution including drafting, preparing, and filing patent applications, including provisional and non-provisional applications; reviewing office actions from US and foreign patent offices; and drafting responses or response instructions for outside counsel or complete formal responses.
  2. Patent Research and Analysis: Patent related duties include providing patent research, analysis, advice and opinions for purposes such as, patentability, state of the art, freedom to operate, validity, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, litigation support and monitoring and analyzing competitor intellectual property portfolios.
  3. Identifying Intellectual Property: The Intellectual Property Counsel will also: identify and document patentable subject matter and trade secret subject matter from invention disclosure forms, white papers, product development meetings, research and development meetings, and meetings with individual associates; train, educate, and counsel associates on intellectual property matters such as, the patenting process, best practices, changes in intellectual property law, and company policies; and review associates’ proposed presentation materials, research papers, and other publications to assess the impact on Heliae’s intellectual property rights and portfolio. General duties of the Associate Intellectual Property Counsel also include communicating with other business units within Heliae regarding intellectual property matters; and other tasks assigned. The Associate Intellectual Property Counsel reports to and takes direction from the Deputy General Counsel.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences.
  • Experience in patent searching, patent drafting and patent prosecution
  • Experience with interfacing with researchers and other employees
  • Ability to rapidly come up to speed on new technology, industry, etc.
  • A degree in Law from an accredited law school and a license in good standing in any state bar
  • A license to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office

Title: Agroscience Research Scientist – T1

Department: Research & Development

Basic Function: The Agroscience Research Scientist (T1) will design, plan and conduct plant-based trials at Heliae’s greenhouse facility, aimed at developing and optimizing ag science products derived from Heliae algal strains. He/She will be responsible for overseeing all data tracking for these experiments as well as analyzing and presenting all relevant data and learnings. The Research Scientist will help guide the protocol design and data analysis of external field trials, as needed and will interact at a technical level with all other aspects of the Program. The Research Scientist will also take part in planning additional experiments in the plant greenhouse and laboratory. He/she will work directly with the Lead Agroscience Technician and other technicians to ensure smooth operations of all Ag Science facilities where experiments are performed. The Ag team experiments involve working with vascular plants and other safe organic materials. The associate will comply with all Heliae laboratory safety and quality standards.

Reports to: Manager, Ag Science & Molecular Ecology

Primary Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:

Daily Duties

  • Oversee the design and implementation of greenhouse experiments with various crop targets
  • Conduct data analysis on all experiments and provide detailed reports and presentations of data and conclusions to Supervisor, Ag Science Team and larger Heliae community.
  • Ensure proper set up and maintenance of on-site greenhouse
  • Coordinate experimental timelines with Lead Technician, Agronomist and supervisor
  • Participate in the overall planning of Heliae’s Agroscience work.
  • Ensure that experimental data is collected, graphed and analyzed properly in Excel and other relevant statistical software.
  • Perform wet chemistry techniques as needed.
  • Adhere to good documentation practices while using laboratory logbooks and electronic logs on Box server.
  • Maintain and update chemical inventory and inventory of Safety Data Sheets.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment to ensure quality data.
  • Maintain a clean “24-hour Audit Ready” work space at all times.
  • Comply with all job specific Standard Operating Procedures if applicable.

May perform other duties as needed or directed by the Direct Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • MS degree in related Plant Biology field or equivalent research experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment with minimal supervision
  • Ability to train new technicians in plant-based techniques
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and statistical software
